Founding Design Engineer

Remote (US)Full-timeEngineering

Define AutoRev's design language from scratch: own UI/UX across the dashboard, the voice product, and the marketing site end to end.

AutoRev AI builds the AI coworker for home service businesses. It answers every call and text, books the job, follows up on every lead, and clears the busywork that keeps techs and dispatchers off the tools they already run. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing companies run AutoRev today to stop losing revenue to missed calls and slow follow-up.

The role

Home service software hasn't caught up to what the industry actually needs. Most dispatch tools still look like they were built in 2008, because for a long time nobody with real product design taste was paying attention to this market.

That's the opportunity. AutoRev is being built with more design ambition than anything else in this space, and you'd be the first designer to shape what it looks like next. For a lot of the owners we work with, AutoRev is already the best-designed software they use in their business. That bar should only go up with you here.

You won't be optimizing a mature product or inheriting someone else's design system. You'll be defining what good looks like for an industry that's rarely seen it.

What you'll do

Design ownership

  • Own UI/UX quality across the customer dashboard, the voice product, and the marketing site end to end.

  • Turn real conversations with real operators into shipped product and UX improvements.

  • Explore the problem space before landing on a solution. The best answers come from understanding how dispatchers actually work, not the first idea that seems fine.

  • Ship frontend changes yourself. You're making real production changes, not handing off a file and walking away.

Product partnership

  • Work directly with engineers from spec to ship.

  • Be a regular thought partner to the founders on product direction.

  • Get on calls with customers to hear workflows and pain points directly, not secondhand.

  • Catch UX problems before customers have to point them out.

Craft and standards

  • Establish AutoRev's visual and interaction design language from the ground up.

  • Use AI-assisted tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) to prototype and iterate fast.

  • Set the bar for design quality and attention to detail across everything we ship.

What we're looking for

Experience

  • 4-6 years of product design experience, ideally including time at a startup.

  • A track record of shipping frontend code yourself, not just handing off specs.

  • B2B or ops-focused product design background; you understand it's different from consumer design.

  • A strong portfolio of shipped, real work.

Product sense

  • Detail-obsessed. You notice a typographic inconsistency and can't leave it alone.

  • You can explain the why behind a design decision, not just show the result.

  • Good judgment about what to prioritize; you work on the flows that matter most, not the most interesting ones.

Mindset

  • Comfortable being the first designer, which means defining everything from scratch.

  • Fluent with AI-assisted development tools; you'll be asked about this specifically.

  • High-velocity: scrappy and hungry rather than a perfectionist.

Nice to haves

  • Experience designing for field service, logistics, or other ops-heavy software.

  • Comfortable being embedded with founders daily.

Why join now

This is the point where a first designer becomes part of a company's foundation. The team is small enough that your decisions show up across the entire product, visible to every customer we have. A lot of what you build now will still be the standard a year from now.
